an old garage renovation in Sweden

A former military garage located on the small island of Furillen on the east coast of Gotland, Sweden, wasn’t exactly dream house material. However, a Swedish family living in Stockholm that were looking for a holiday home to spend their summers recognized the potential. Especially the proximity to the Baltic sea was a decisive factor. They extensively renovated the abandoned building using raw materials and left-over furniture that they had found at the site. When they were finished they had created the perfect holiday home. Nothing too fancy but a laid back place that is suitable for family life. [1] The project was carried out by Imberg Arkitekter, a Stockholm based architecture and design studio run by Lotta & Henrik Imberg, a progressive practice with a lot of pro bono work performed.
