More campsite and less house
this modern camping platform is a perfect place for the Kobayashi family to
test their outdoor clothing and gear designs in the real elements. Designed by
Shin Ohori of General Design Co.,
the structure borders between a house and a simple assortment of facilities
(like a campsite). Two hours northwest of Tokyo
One North Face tent sits atop
a deck; another caps the main building, which contains a kitchen and dining
area. The long, lean Kobayashi complex includes a bathroom and storage room in
the structure on the far end. The rooftop tent can be accessed from the
interior via a wooden ladder or—for the more athletic—via a series of
wall-mounted climbing holds. Translucent fiberglass panel walls form a
permeable, fiber-reinforced plastic membrane between indoors and out. Wood is
collected and stored under the decks. The main building has roomy open spaces
and facilitates the kitchen and dining area. And finaly the ultimate luxury : a
hot bath in the clawfoot tub, with the fiberglass door open wide to the woods.
