Hers Experimental Design Laboratory

Chiaki Murata is a japanese designer, based in Osaka, that started his carrer as an industrial designer in Sanyo Electric. He used the experience gained there to fuel his passion for product design, and after several years Hers Experimental Design Laboratory was born as his personal space of creation. He has managed to use his technical knowledge to build a sound reputation as a designer, and even started his own line of products, named Metaphys. He established Hers Experimental Design Laboratory, Inc. in 1986, and created many controversial products in a wide range of designs for products, graphics C.I., and interface design, and has received many awards. Proposed the virtual industry system, which links each process of product development to an industry that specializes in that field, and implemented the IT type product development system that involves distribution. Chiaki Murata wasn’t satisfied by only working in product design. That is the reason why he entered the Japan Design Society, sat in the jury of the Good Design Award, teaches at different Universities and performs in TV shows. The field of active design still was his focused area and that is how Chaiki Murata became managing director of Metaphys and designs with that name interesting and practical products. He now has a presence all over the region in matters of design, product engineering and design education.
